Apr. 2008: The Shibboleth project participated in two interop events accompanying the RSA conference. Scott Cantor represented Shibboleth in the Concordia event, which tested interoperation using SAML and WS* protocols. Jim Fox supported the Shibboleth CardSpace implementation, which participated in the OSIS Interop event.

Nov-2007: The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School and the Research Center for Information Law at the University of St. Gallen have released a new white paper in their series "Breaking Down Digital Barriers". "Digital identity interoperability and eInnovation" Their white paper discusses Shibboleth, as an example of the current state of Digital ID Interoperability. 7-Dec-2006: Today, for the first time, the Internet2 community demonstrated the interoperability of its Shibboleth federated identity management software with the National Science Foundation's (NSF) FastLane online grant administration system. The full news release is available here. In about two weeks, we'll provide a link to an archived video of the demonstration.
29-Nov-2006: Shibboleth as an Intra-campus Web SSO, and with SOA
At a recent Educause live broadcast, UCSD talked about "Planning and Delivering Service-Oriented Architecture". In this talk, they described how they are using Shibboleth as their deployed intra-campus Web SSO mechanism, why it's good to have a Web SSO, and noted the value of having Shibboleth support attributes. UCSD has a web portal/front-end that uses Shibboleth for SSO, and accesses backends via an SOA framework and its security mechanisms (authenticating as the user, using the identity obtained via Shibboleth attributes). This is an interesting example of a working approach to hooking these middleware components together; it is significant in showing that using WS-Security does NOT imply reinventing a campus infrastructure, or using WS-Federation.
